How will flexible working policies impact the interim market?

July 2021

I read with interest the recent research from Accenture, which revealed that nearly one in four Scottish employees at financial services firms would prefer to work entirely from home in the future*.

What do you think? Do you favour returning to the office full time, or is a part-time, flexible office life more for you?

There are, of course, pros and cons of all approaches, but with more of us seeking a balanced working life going forward, this will undoubtedly be felt in the interim market too.

Could working from a (home) office and not being tied to a fixed abode open the opportunities for interims? With geography perhaps no longer a barrier and the requirement to be on-site (of some positions) less critical, there may be a rise in those seeking jobs in locations they would never consider.

We may see more professionals north of the border seeking positions in London – is this a good thing for the industry?

With a lot to unravel, it is important to remember the actual benefits of working as an interim provide…

The past 18 months have realigned the power of the senior interim position, from Interim Chief Executive to Interim HR Director, the opportunities are vast and growing, and location is seen by many as no longer a barrier.

Interim working provides a fulfilling career opportunity; senior-level temporary and contract work is rewarding and flexible, two of the biggest draws to the marketplace for professionals seeking contract opportunities. Those that relish pressure, challenge and change are perfect interims and contract positions. These are also the character traits businesses want when seeking senior advice and someone to take the helm instantly.
