In today’s dynamic business landscape, finding and securing top-tier talent for senior management positions can be a challenging task. The competition for exceptional leaders is fierce, and businesses need a strategic advantage to attract and retain the best-fit candidates. That’s where MM Search comes in – a trusted partner in executive search and recruitment.

At MM Search, we specialise in senior management recruitment, bringing unparalleled expertise and a commitment to excellence. Our team of seasoned professionals understands the intricacies and demands of the executive search process. We leverage our extensive network, industry insights, and years of experience to identify, attract, and secure the most talented leaders for your organisation.

Despite all of the above, we still encounter the same question often – why should I pay an agency when I can find talent myself? Like every other business offering a service, there are many reasons to use an agency rather than going it alone. Here are just some of the main advantages of partnering with a recruitment firm when it comes to sourcing top-tier talent.

Don’t just take our word for it, one of our clients Stewart Shaw CBPS recently said:

“The team at MM Search were extremely attentive in the whole process and opened our eyes up to the available talent pool they have extensive contact with, some of whom we as a company would never have been able to make contact with on our own behalf “

Partnering with MM Search for your senior management recruitment needs provides a distinct advantage in today’s competitive business landscape. Our unmatched expertise, extensive network, customised approach, proactive search methodology, commitment to confidentiality, and long-term partnership mindset set us apart from the rest.

We are passionate about unlocking your organisation’s success by finding the right leaders who will drive growth, innovation, and lasting impact. If this is something you would like to explore further, get in touch directly – Rory@mmsearch.co.uk or call me on 07930 399 665.

In today’s ever-evolving business landscape, staying ahead of the game requires a keen understanding of the trends shaping the senior recruitment marketplace. At MM Search, we are dedicated to providing our clients and candidates with the latest insights and analysis, ensuring they make informed decisions when recruiting top-tier executives. Below I explore some of the key trends that we have identified over the past 12 months and the impact these are having on the senior recruitment market.

The Rise of Digital Leadership
As technology continues to reshape industries, the demand for executives with digital expertise is skyrocketing. From chief technology officers to chief digital officers, businesses are seeking leaders well-versed in digital transformation, innovation, and data-driven decision-making. Our experience is showing that executives proficient in leveraging emerging technologies will be in high demand in the coming years.

Embracing Diversity and Inclusion
Inclusion and diversity have moved from merely being buzzwords to being critical for business success. As companies recognise the value of varied perspectives, the need for diverse executive leadership becomes apparent. This was highlighted further during our recent HR Leaders Community event by several HR Directors acknowledging this shift and the impact it was having on their executive leadership teams.

Global Leadership in the Spotlight
With globalisation continuing to shape business landscapes, organisations must seek leaders with a global mindset and cross-cultural understanding. At MM Search, we are finding that executives who can navigate the intricacies of international markets and manage diverse teams will be highly sought-after in the future. There has been a rise amongst our clients looking for candidates with a proven track record of expanding business operations across borders, with the ability to adapt to different cultural norms and drive success on a global scale.

Agile Leadership for Uncertain Times
In an era of rapid change and volatility, agile leadership has emerged as a critical skill set. Business leaders need to be adaptable, quick-thinking, and capable of making tough decisions in uncertain times – something that we are embracing at MM Search as we enter into our 6th Year of trading.

The Impact of Remote Work and Virtual Leadership
The global shift towards remote work has significantly influenced the executive search marketplace. Companies now seek leaders with the ability to effectively engage and lead virtual teams. More and more clients are identifying that virtual leadership is set to become a key differentiator in the search for top talent.

At MM Search, we understand the complexities of the executive search market, with combined experience of over 30 years within the industry. Our analysis of current and future trends serves as a compass for businesses seeking to attract and retain top-notch leadership. From the rise of digital expertise to the imperative of diversity and global leadership, we stay ahead of the curve, enabling our clients and candidates to make strategic and informed decisions.

This week, MM Search promoted Andrew Jardine to Client Engagement Manager, making this the fifth internal promotion within the company in the past two years. This comes in the same month as the company announced the prestigious distinction of being named one of the Top 5 Executive Search Firms of the Year by Manage HR. This significant accolade acknowledges our dedication to providing the highest quality service for both our clients and candidates.

Andrew’s journey at the company has been quite eventful to date. Aird Jardine, Retail Director at Trespass and a former colleague and mentor of Derek MacFeate during his time as a Graduate Trainee at Marks & Spencer, reached out after seeing the success of our MM Intern program. The programme launched in 2021 through the Entrepreneurial Scotland Saltire Programme and Aird enquired about the possibility of his son joining the team. After an impressive interview with Andrew, MM Search initially offered him the role of Client Engagement Executive, which he balanced part-time alongside his Marketing and Sports Degree at Stirling University.

Andrew used his work experience to his advantage – even basing his dissertation on Employer Branding, the secret to success in executive search with a focus on MM Search. Andrew will graduate with a First Class Honours in Marketing and Sports later this summer.

Dedicated to supporting and nurturing internal talent, Founding Managing Partner Derek MacFeate says: Our fast pace, collaborative and people-centric approach to Executive Search requires the right people behind the scenes to deliver the message to prospective clients. Andrew has played a crucial role in expanding our client base through business development, market insights, and networking. His unparalleled drive and determination have contributed significantly to his success, and we are delighted to acknowledge his achievements by promoting him to the position of Client Engagement Manager.

Ken Morrice, Founding Managing Partner adds: “Andrew is an integral part of the MM team. His personality and commitment sets him apart; he is resilient, competitive, and passionate – three key character traits we seek in all of our team members. We are excited to see what will come over the next year and beyond.”

Following Ken’s example, Andrew is always on the move. He has successfully juggled university, work, and delivering the highest quality results for MM Search, all while serving as the Captain of Biggar RFC. MM Search takes immense pride in sponsoring Andrew as a player at Biggar Rugby Club through our MM Athletes program.

Andrew’s promotion comes in the final quarter of MM Search’s fifth year of trading and marks a significant period of growth for the company following the recent appointments of two senior Associate Partners, Lindsay MacLeod and Rachael Brooks, earlier this year.

I decided I wanted to work in recruitment when…
Last year, I applied for a position as a Talent Acquisition Executive with M&Co, and I loved it. It looked like a great opportunity, and I learned a lot about the recruitment process from developing interesting job adverts working with candidates, and I was given a chance to perform some informal interviews too. I loved the challenge and variety!

I joined the MM Search team…
I feel fortunate that not long after redundancy at M&Co, I was headhunted by one of the team at MM. I met with Natalie, and she really sold it to me; I loved the sound of the company, the culture and the opportunity.

The first thing I do when I get to the office is…

I am fuel for the day kind of person, so over a bowl of cereal with the team, I am planning the day and hearing what needs to happen and when!

My working day involves…
I support the resourcing team, so I am responsible for researching for roles; I can be working on up to five roles at any one time, so it takes a lot of multitasking. I reach out to potential candidates, perform searches, set up meetings with the consultants, and am the point of communication between the team, the candidates and the client. I like the mix.

My greatest professional strength is…

Resilience – I think, especially in this industry, you need it. There can be knockbacks and wins all at once! I am always determined.

The highlight of my career so far was when…

As part of the selection process at MM Search, I had to build and present a case study to Ken and Derek, which, if I am honest, I felt was outwith my ability. But I did it; I was quietly impressed with myself and thought that even if I didn’t get the role, I had given myself the best shot. However, that evening I got a call from Ken to offer me the role. I’ll not doubt myself again after that.

The thing I love most about working with the MM Search team…
It’s a very positive, enthusiastic and relaxed working environment, everyone is supportive, and nothing is ever an issue. However, it is fast-paced, and we always strive for more, but we do get a lot of trust from the senior team.

When I’m not in work, you’ll usually find me…
I am a crafter at heart, I enjoy paper crafts and I’ve done a lot of cross-stitch – I really want to learn how to crotchet to make my own clothes. I also love to socialise with friends.

My motto is…
Try everything once – you always regret the things you don’t do!

My goals for 2023…
To get the dissertation done, I am approaching my final year of studying Psychology at University, so have exams and a dissertation ahead.

My secret skill/party piece is…
I am a golfer! I used to go golfing with my dad at the weekends, and during the summer – the team figured out my skill on our recent trip to Top Golf.

With a recruitment career spanning 16 years, MM Search’s new Associate Partner, Lindsay MacLeod, brings invaluable experience and expertise to the business…

With a recruitment career spanning 16 years, MM Search’s new Associate Partner, Lindsay MacLeod, brings invaluable experience and expertise to the business…

I decided I wanted to work in recruitment when…
A friend recommended the industry to me. Before I started working in recruitment, I had been working in product-based sales for 10 years. I had quite a big territory and did a lot of traveling with work which was something I wanted to stop. A friend of mine worked in recruitment and suggested that I consider it, so I attended an open day with a global recruiter. I secured a role recruiting into procurement and supply chain and that was 16 years ago!

I love interacting with all different kinds of businesses and I get to meet very interesting and impressive people every day. I still feel very passionately about the industry after all this time.

I joined the MM Search team…
In March 2023. I had previously worked with Ken and Derek and I believe that they have a really solid proposition with MM Search. The business values are very aligned with my own principles and their people-first approach really resonated with me.

The first thing I do when I get to the office is…
My days start early as I have two kids and two dogs so by the time I land in the office, I’ve already put in a two and a half our shift! The first thing I do is make a large coffee and breathe! Then I go through my diary and check my schedule so that I can prepare for the meetings I have that day.

My working day involves…
My days are very people focused and I spend a lot of time communicating with organisations, candidates and potential candidates. My role involves connecting organisations with the people that can help them to achieve their business goals while also finding positions for candidates that will help them to fulfil their career aspirations.

My greatest professional strength is…
My ability to communicate and collaborate. These are the skills that enable me to understand the needs and culture of an organisation and to identify the best people for the business.

The highlight of my career so far was…
While working with a non-profit on a multi-hire campaign. It was a challenging project and at the end of the campaign, my contact from the business gave me a hug and said that I had totally surpassed every expectation both in terms of the calibre and the quantity of people I had placed. That gave me a huge sense of achievement and has really stayed with me.

The thing I love most about working with the MM Search team is…
The team here have so much energy and it’s very clear that everyone in the business is on the same page. It’s a very people-focused environment and I really enjoy that we all want to work together to create the best outcome for each individual.

When I’m not in work, you’ll usually find me…
With the important people in my life. Life can be quite frantic so when there’s some down-time I like to make plans with my friends and family.

My motto is…
Don’t look back. I believe that everything in life is a learning experience and that it’s important to look in the direction you’re headed, and that should be forwards.

My goals for 2023 are to…
I’m looking forward to carving out my niche here at MM Search and being successful in my new role. I also want to make sure I’m dedicating the right time and energy to the important people around me so that I know their wellbeing is supported. It’s all about the small things and creating a balance between being in a happy place, being successful and being well.

My secret skill/party piece is…
I like doing floristry and I’ve even done a couple of weddings for friends. I also enjoy a bit of karaoke and have been known to sing the odd Amy Winehouse song!

What was the last gift you gave someone?
One of my friends was going through a tough time recently and I thought she needed a little bit of TLC, so another friend and I bought her a spa break. We all went away for a couple of days and it was so nice spend that time together and see her being pampered.

If you were an animal, what would you be?
I think I would be a monkey because I’m quite curious and emotionally intelligent… I can be a bit mischievous too!

How would your best friend describe you in 3 words?
Loyal, driven and caring.

How would your colleagues describe you in 3 words?
Knowledgeable, determined and genuine.

Chief People Officer of SMS Plc, Judy Keir, put us through our paces and help us shape our values and understand our culture

Resilience, passion, integrity, and pace… are just a few of ours at MM Search, but it is not easy to say what your values are without some digging first.

Some may say that business values are the guiding principles that drive our behaviours, and others feel that they inspire action or future growth, but we know that at MM Search, our culture and values are at the beating heart of our organisation.

Our values inform how we work together, interact with clients, and support our candidates.

We strongly believe that values help us create the future we want to experience, and as a growing business hurtling toward our sixth year, we place a massive emphasis on our values – they will shape our future.

With this in mind, we wanted to drill down on the clarity of our values, what drives, develops, and deepens the connection that MM Search experiences daily and year-on-year. And as with many things, it is hard to do this in isolation. You often need support from others, so we invited the Chief People Officer of SMS Plc, Judy Keir, to put us through our paces and help us shape our values and understand our culture.

Judy started the workshop by brainstorming, placing photo cards on the floor and asking us to pick one or two that resonated with the MM Search culture.  From this, everyone came up with an explanation about what working at MM Search felt like for them – examples included train tracks – being on the right track in your career, and pebbles of all shapes and sizes; we all bring something different to the team and work closely together, a toddler with toes in the sea – being able to experience things for the first time, dipping your toe into something new and exciting. From this, we then discussed our existing values. These were laid out on sheets of paper, and we all had to put a tick or a cross; the majority with ticks stayed, and crosses would go.  New values were then voted on, based on language we had used to describe the culture earlier.

This was a fascinating exercise – ensuring the entire team were involved, helped us navigate and determine our values. We kept three original values – people specialists, passion, and pace, and we built on these.

Everyone left the workshop feeling so involved in creating the values, and on board with what they mean, which is really important especially since the team has grown substantially over the past few years.

It was also great to get Judy’s feedback; she thought we were a close-knit, collaborative team that communicated well, and that our competitiveness to achieve a goal shone through!

Onwards we go!
