MM Search’s Business Delivery Manager, Euan Bodie, shares the results of a recent LinkedIn poll.

LinkedIn polls can be a great way of gaining audience insights and taking a snapshot of the opinions of your online community. With this in mind, in early June I asked my own LinkedIn community what the most important factor was when deciding whether to apply for a role.

I offered participants four options to choose from including ‘salary, ‘company culture’, ‘additional benefits’ and ‘WFH/hybrid working’. Of these four categories, salary came out on top, with 40% of the 124 participants considering this to be the most important factor when searching for a new role. Company culture was the next most popular with 33% of the vote, while WFH/hybrid working options received 25% and additional benefits received 2%.

The fact that the salary option received the highest portion of votes may not be altogether surprising, however, when we consider the results as a whole, they provide an interesting insight into the wants and needs of candidates. I believe that the relatively small margins between the top three answers highlight that candidates are now seeking positions that tick multiple boxes for them.

The data shows that while candidates are seeking financially rewarding work, they are also placing importance on the less tangible aspects of a role in a bid to build a career that promotes a work/life balance and fits with their own personal values.
